GH4 Shutter Mechanism in Slow Motion!

edgerPlusGH4

We are doing an in depth review of the affordable edgertronic digital high speed camera that should be published soon, however one of the tests involved showing how the shutter curtain mechanism works on the Panasonic GH4 at different speeds.   The edgertronic camera was loaned for this review and we thank Michael Matter of Sanstreak/edgertronic for providing the gear and technical support for this undertaking. A big shout out to The Slow Mo Guys for partly inspiring to record this footage.   Enjoy the video

4k Slow Motion Is it really worth it?

Seagull4kFHD

With 4k TVs, projectors and computer displays entering the marketplace in droves it is only a matter of time until 4k finds it’s way into the super slow motion realm for TV, Cinema and scientific analysis.

There is a strong argument for the increased resolution when it comes to capturing at 4k in any frame rate. It gives freedom to crop or punch in for a Full HD shot and or stabilize footage with crop leeway on the borders without trashing a shot. It is also crisp in a way that can only be described as looking through a window; which is a funny analogy because when Full HD came out in the early 2000s that was used often to sell TVs and the new experience. Now we are told the real window is 4k and your perfectly functional 1080p 240Hz tv is next to useless.   This is of course hardly a realistic view or currently installed TV technology. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Nikon 1 J5 Improves Slowmo Resolution!

Nikon1J5

The Nikon 1 J5 was no secret since some leaks have been out for some time.  However it is clear that the Nikon 1 line remains focused on speed be it still images or video.  However they seem to be capping the frame rates on the HD side and upping the resolution in the 1200 and 400fps ranges by a few lines. We believe the reason is product separation so that the Nikon 1 V4 will be able to have some increase in specs while having the same basic internals.

Here are the specs That have changed for Slow Motion Video: → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony FDR-X1000V Beats Hero 4 in Detail!

pSNYNA-FDRX1000V~W_alternate2_v500

The new Sony FDR-X1000V Action cam has been arriving to users and there is a lot to like.  For starters the image stabilization while “Digital only not optical” is excellent and something GoPro needs to include in it’s offerings. There is some stuttering in heavy motion but does work very well. Resolution will be reduced by stabilization as the image borders are cropped on the Sony FDR-X1000V.

The color is very saturated the low light beats the GoPro easily when it comes to detail. It is still no low light champ but it does offer better performance than the Hero 4 Black. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
