Chronos 1.4 Footage From Final Camera is Great!

Chronos 1.4 Footage

The Chronos 1.4 has been shipping to early bird backers for the past week and the cameras continue to be produced at a hectic pace. We are sharing footage from the final production camera that user Gyppor received and needless to say it is quite good.  The resolution being 1280*1024 at its highest option or 1280*720p  HD as a more common mode creates a pleasing image with very little aliasing and good noise control.

The Luxima Technology  LUX1310 2/3 sized sensor is delivering very good performance that is closer to a 1″ due to the big pixel sizes at 6.6µm compared to say a Galaxy S8 at 1.2µm, these pixels are gigantic.  Even comparing a 1″ Sensor in the Sony RX100 V camera at 2.4µm bodes well for the Chronos 1.4 with nearly 3 times the size. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Panasonic GH5 vs Red Epic Slow Motion!

Panasonic GH5 vs Red Epic Slow Motion

The Youtube channel CRFTSHO has created a guessing video game that pits the Panasonic GH5 vs the RED EPIC Camera in a slow motion 1080p match.  The fun is that even for the trained eye there is no easy way to tell which camera is actually on screen playing until you get the revelation footage which is the 2nd part of the game.

What is interesting about the results is that the RED Epic a camera worth over 10 times more than the Panasonic Lumix GH5 is almost indistinguishable and in some shots the cheaper camera is preferable in sharpness and detail.  It probably has to do with the GH5 doing full sensor downsampling up to 120fps at 1080p vs the RED doing sensor windowed mode. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Slow Motion Videos of the Week!

Slow Motion Videos of the Week

We have seen quite a lot of new slow motion footage inundate the Intertubes this week.  The amount and quality of the footage seem to have exploded recently with more and more cameras able to shoot at higher frame rates and at qualities that make it bearable to watch. Of course, there is also the occasional professional high speed camera shot i.e Phantom Flex 4k, which makes it the icing on the cake.

It is also time to get inspired by looking at the work of others to better your own shooting and gather new ideas or inspiration.  It is time to lay back and relax while you watch some extremely cool slow motion footage. And as always remember to be safe if you attempt any of the stunts or experiments shot.  Take Care! → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Yi 4k+ Slow Motion Samples!

Yi 4k+ Slow Motion Samples

The Yi Technology Yi 4k+ has been shipping for a few days and now slow motion samples have been posted online. There is no question the Yi 4k+ is the best value in action cameras today with specs that reach 4k at 60fps and up to 240fps in 720p Wide mode.

There is, of course, a resolution decrease and softness increase when it reduces the frame size to extract frames but it is within the norm and very competitive image quality wise with GoPro Hero 5 and Sony Action cam.  There are nearly identical components inside the Yi 4k+ to other action cameras and the Ambarella H2 Chipset makes its debut on the Yi line with good performance. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony Xperia XZ Premium Slow Motion Shooting!

Sony Xperia XZ Premium Slow Motion

We already stated that the Slow Motion performance of the Sony Xperia XZs & XZ premium should be identical given that they share the exact same camera module based on a stacked memory sensor design. However many readers have asked if there is a difference between both phones.  Considering the latest samples released we can state that when it comes to slow motion shooting the XZs & XZ premium are identical.

The camera has a slow motion mode that takes very short bursts about 0.2 sec each to generate slow motion video in a 720p H.264 video stream. It is limited and you need trial and error to succeed but in the end, you can get terrific looking high-speed video that simply is unmatched by any other smartphone to date. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony a9 Slow Motion Has Impressive Quality!

Sony a9 Slow Motion

The Sony a9 impressed with its full frame 20fps Stills shooting at  24.2 Megapixels.  It is probably the most groundbreaking camera performance wise we have come across for sports shooters in a decade.  The AF performance is second to none and as recent samples show it is just as good in video mode. Sony has cracked the continuous AF for video performance threshold where it can be used for production. That is no small feat.

What was totally unexpected was that the 120fps slow motion mode at full HD, which has a full sensor downsampling without crop of the 35mm FF sensor, is not only good; but probably the most detailed full HD slow motion mode we have seen in a DSLR or Mirrorless camera to date. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
