Galaxy S8 1000fps Rumor!

Galaxy S8 1000fps

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the most anticipated Android phone announcement of 2017.  The latest rumors suggest that the phone will feature fast DRAM attached to the camera module sensor package in a similar way to Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium announcement last month. This is the same technology that is present on the Sony RX Camera series.

It is unclear if this sensor will be the same one in those Sony phones since it probably uses similar technology. Also unknown are the final imaging specs when it comes to higher frame rates but we have some guesses. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Galaxy S8

The Samsung Note 7 was an unmitigated disaster for Samsung last year and continues to have a lasting effect on many consumers when deciding for a phone.  However Samsung according to recent disclosures on the causes of the battery fires on the Note 7 has now learned a lot from these mistakes and has pushed forward with innovative handsets scheduled for this year.

Yi 4k+ Leaves Slowmo Unchanged in HD!

Yi 4k+

The Xiaomi Yi 4k+ Camera announced today at CES is revolutionary just barely by it’s 4k 60fps spec which is ahead of all other action cameras in the market. However 1080p and 720p resolutions have not seen a bump in frame rates with the cameras still doing the same specs as last year’s Yi 4k camera which is in turn the same spec as the GoPro Hero 4, 5 and Sony X3000 Action cameras.

The YI 4K+ uses the newest Amba H2 SOC, the first 14nm video processing/encoding SOC part which is quite fast and on the spec list fast enough for 120fps at 4k on AVCHD encode.  This pixel rate is fast enough for 240fps at full 1080p or  480fps at 720p without maxing the system.  Yi 4k+ however has remained conservative due to hardware limitations in other areas like imaging sensor and memory allocation to just 4k 60p recording. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Google Pixel Initial Slow Motion Samples!

google pixel Phone Slow Motion

Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL phones have started to arrive to pre order customers all over the world.  We now have a glimpse about the slow motion quality the phones can deliver and if all the hype was justified. At first glance we tend to see an improvement in both resolution and artifact control as well as better sound recording and noise suppression.

We however cannot claim this phone to be better than the iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 in slow motion quality even when they share the same 120fps 1080p and 240fps 720p spec. It will be a matter of testing them head to head and see what Google has in store for slow motion enthusiasts. What is clear with the initial samples is that the quality is improved from the Nexus 6P of last year. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Google Pixel Phones Offer up to 240fps!

googlepixelflat

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones released this weeks offer some pretty robust features when it comes to the camera and video recording.   It offers UHD 4k at 30fps and keeping up with the Google Nexus 6p of last year it retains the slow motion mode that made it competitive with the iPhone 6s and 7.  However there are no further improvements when it comes to frame rates above 240fps.  It is however a much better phone with faster CPU and GPU which should help with all imaging tasks.

The new Pixel Phones are by any measure the flagship Android phone for those seeking Google update support and a more pure Stock Android OS experience. You get the benefit of no bloatware, No Android skinning  and up to date updates that made the Nexus line of phones so desirable to users of the platform. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
