There have been some incredible slow motion videos produced as of late and we are starting a new feature here on HSC called Slow Motion Video Watch. It will periodically showcase slow motion examples that you should not miss.

While there will be posts by usual youtube stars, there will also be a mix of unknowns and just cool new slow motion footage from newcomers.  Some slow motion cameras that are just being tested out can produce some of the most creative clips and many are lost in the eternity of internet video lists. Galaxy S8 Slow Motion Samples!

There was a lot of commotion online when the rumors of the Galaxy S8 having 1000 fps video surfaced. However that turned out to be pure unfounded speculation. Still the phone did offer slow motion of 240fps at 720p which is not bad for a phone but hardly flagship these days. Still that does not detract from the ability to capture cool slow-mo shots.

The quality is close to 720p on the Galaxy S8 but not entirely there. We see some softness, aliasing and moire in the shots with a tendency to be more apparent in diagonal lines and repeating detail textures.  Still the quality is on par with the iPhone 7 and Google Pixel XL phones. Canon Releases New EOS & M Cameras!

Yesterday Canon unveiled the Canon EOS 77D, EOS T7i & the M6 Mirrorless.  Al three are geared to photo enthusiasts and contain a video component that in some ways resembles the releases of other companies from 2014.  The real improvement with these cameras comes in the way of dual pixel AF sensors that are able to track in video mode with precision.

The pricing on these cameras is very aggressive with the 77D @ $899.99 body only,  T7i for $749.00 body only and  M6 with 15-45mm lens for $899.  You get a lot of still camera for your money and a somewhat competitive 1080p video camera with up to 60fps in that mode. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

The end of 2016 is upon us and now it is time to look back across the year and see what delivered in affordable slow motion gear.  While many cameras had higher frame rates, only a few really shined and delivered on the promise of offering HD quality and higher than normal frames per second “fps” at an attractive price point.

Many promised lots of performance and didn’t deliver and some have yet to ship which means they will not be counted in the running. Only cameras that are shipping and fully available are being considered for this list.
