edgertronic SC2+ Review – Part 1

Last year we reviewed the edgertronic affordable high speed camera “Now named edgertronic SC1” . The first edgertronic was revolutionary in price and features and was a big disruptor in the slow motion camera space as many competitors that offered essentially the same performance, were left with price tags several orders of magnitude higher which many customers balked at .

This year Sanstreak the company founded by Mike Matter the mind behind the edgertronic SC1 is now launching the edgertronic SC2 and edgertronic SC2+ cameras which offer performance above and beyond what the original edgertronic camera was capable of.  Software wise it is nearly identical with the evolving code base that has matured in the last two years is used with nearly 100% support in the SC2 and SC2+ cameras. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Galaxy Note 7 Slow Motion Samples!

Galaxy Note 7

As expected the Galaxy Note 7 was announced this week and has the same camera specs as the most popular flagship phone from Samsung the Galaxy S7.  It does have some new tricks up it’s sleeve aside from the customary S Pen. It has for the first time in a Samsung phone an Iris scanner for security unlocking and now USB Type C which many phones already sport.

It is basically a Galaxy S7 Edge with a larger screen, a pen and an Iris Scanner with IP68 Water resistance.  We would not take it in the ocean but should withstand moderate immersion and or splashes. This may be the best Note phone yet but it is also the most uneventful in the line since most if it’s specs are already present in the S7 line.  The Note phones used to be about the most forward looking specs, this time around Samsung stuck with the proven  formula of the S7 which is the #1 Selling Android phone for 2016. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Underwater Slow Motion with Sony RX100 IV!

Underwater Slow Motion Fantasea FRX100IV

Few have attempted filming slow motion underwater and the results are usually underwhelming due to the amount of light needed. The light kits alone can make the undersea wildlife exit in a fast way from apparent danger unless they lack eyes or photo sensors.  However with a little ingenuity and keeping frame rates slow but not overly so you can get very good looking footage under the ocean with what amounts to be an entry package.

Chase Darnell did a review for Dive Photo Guide where the Sony RX100 IV is used with the aid of a Fantasea FRX100 IV Underwater Housing. As a diver the review is geared for underwater shooting which is not common when it comes to slow motion.  He goes over the pros and cons of the kit and much more. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Lenovo ZUK Z2 960fps Slow Motion Just Interpolation!

Lenovo Zuk Z2

The slow motion phone that was gathering a lot of interest regarding it’s capability was the Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro with a spec reported to be 960fps.  Such a spec would leapfrog the current iPhone 6s and Google’s Nexus 6P 240fps 720p spec. However it seems such bold claims are usually met with a reality that does not match such claims.

The Youtube channel C4ETech “Subscribe Here” has had a go with the Zuk Z2 and found that the spec is pretty much smoke and mirrors. The 960fps spec which was supposed to be HD quality and full frames is nothing more than 120fps 720p interpolated by software up to 960fps. It doesn’t even allow real 240fps like other competitive phone options. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Photokina Expected Camera Announcements

Photokina 2016

We are just a couple of months away from Photokina 2016 which takes place from Sept 20-25th in Cologne Germany.  There are quite a few refresh expectations when it comes to cameras but there are also rumors of new announcements. As to what is solid and or dependable remains a mystery but rest assured there will be some good hardware presented.

For starters the updates to popular higher end camera lines in the Nikon, Canon, Sony and Panasonic lines should be announced with most of them sporting higher frame rates as specs. Continuous Phase Auto focus will continue to be a trend this year as more sensors support it. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

FLIR X6900sc can do Thermal Imaging at 1000fps!

FLIR X6900sc

Very little attention is placed on high speed thermal imaging because frankly it’s a field so new that only a handful of cameras can even approach that performance. The FLIR X6900sc is breaking records by now recording 1000fps at 640 x 512 resolution which is pretty high by thermal pixel standards and a memory buffer recorded on-camera RAM for 26 seconds. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
