The Introduction of the DJI OSMO Action camera marks what many called the ultimate silver bullet to counter the GoPro Hero camera line. It is an evolutionary step that takes most of what made the GoPro Hero Black series amazing and even goes further by improving in areas where GoPro has fallen behind. The Stabilizer seems better as is the addition of a secondary selfie screen in order to frame yourself while recording.
It gets the usual frame rates of 120fps & 240fps 1080p full HD and the 4k 60fps spec. None of these are revolutionary or groundbreaking which means this is a version 1 product for DJI. Phones, for example, are already in the 960fps and 1000fps spec even when they are limited to fractions of a second. A Camera like the OSMO Action could have gotten a bit of this slow motion prowess and differentiate from GoPro even further but not this time around. We have a few samples of the higher frame rates for you too look at and see if it makes sense to acquire this camera instead of other options.
There is nothing more annoying than capturing slow motion footage or any video on your cellphone and later discover that it is full of rolling shutter wobble and artifacts that simply cannot be used without inducing motion sickness. The new Kickstarter project called Vimble S aims to offer a very low cost alternative and compatibility with a variety of phones for 3 axis full stabilization with a smart handheld gimbal.
The Vimble S campaign was aiming for about 50k USD to fund it’s manufacturing operations and initial expansion. Much to the surprise of everyone it was funded in less than two days and now aims for a 100k USD funding ceiling and maybe more. It supports several smartphones including the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 with their own custom iOS and Android App!
DJI Has announced a portable 3-Axis Gimbal camera system called DJI OSMO that rivals the best handheld camera options from the competition with an integrated ZENMUSE X3 camera “Same as the one found in the DJI Inspire 1 drone. You get a ton of standard features like an intelligent panning mode and auto panorama with also a timelapse & intervalometer to boot. You will need to supply a Phone or other portable device with iOS or Android in order to have a live preview screen and set up the camera / adjust settings.
