Google Pixel 2 Slow Motion Stays The Same!

Google Pixel 2 Slow Motion

The Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL have been unveiled and to put it simply the slow motion component has received no change.  We are disappointed that the 120fps 1080p mode is the highest frame rate at that resolution when Apple’s iPhone 8 and X max out at 240fps 1080p.  The 240fps spec on the Pixel 2 is the same also as the first Pixel phones at only 720p.

In 2016 we tied the iPhone 7 with the Google Pixel as equals in the slow motion game but it is clear that Google has dropped the ball with this release by not being particularly strong in the video side as Apple even has 4k 60fps added on their new phones when the Pixel 2 and 2 XL max out at 30fps.  This year the iPhone 8 and X seems to be the slow motion phones of the year with a #2 spot for the Sony Xperia XZ series.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Black Friday Slow Motion Camera Deals!

Black Friday Slow Motion Camera

It’s that time of year when we examine the best deals out there for super slow motion capable cameras. Some discounts are hard to pass while others are downright ridiculous compared to retail prices when the gear was launched. If you are thinking to buy a gift for someone or yourself that does high frame rates then we have a few picks that will make it easier.

There is a plethora of options to choose from but we will focus on the best category contenders that have received a type of deal that does justice to either Black Friday or Cyber Monday! We will outright reject anything that just barely does higher frame rates and focus on cameras that do them well and have in some cases room for going head to head with very expensive ones.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

LG V20 Slowmo at 120fps is Good!

LG V20 Slowmo

The LG V20 has been shipping in the US for the past two weeks and some slow motion samples have been released by users online.  While it won’t break any records with it’s 720p 120fps spec it does allow it to get on our list with acceptable quality slow motion.

This is a fairly powerful phone based on the Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB of RAM and dual cameras one with 1/2.6″ sensor size @ 29mm, and the other at 1/3.2″ sensor size @ 12mm with laser Auto focus. One big negative is no waterproofing and for some the absence of wireless charging.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Google Pixel Initial Slow Motion Samples!

google pixel Phone Slow Motion

Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL phones have started to arrive to pre order customers all over the world.  We now have a glimpse about the slow motion quality the phones can deliver and if all the hype was justified. At first glance we tend to see an improvement in both resolution and artifact control as well as better sound recording and noise suppression.

We however cannot claim this phone to be better than the iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 in slow motion quality even when they share the same 120fps 1080p and 240fps 720p spec. It will be a matter of testing them head to head and see what Google has in store for slow motion enthusiasts. What is clear with the initial samples is that the quality is improved from the Nexus 6P of last year.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Google Pixel Phones Offer up to 240fps!

googlepixelflat

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones released this weeks offer some pretty robust features when it comes to the camera and video recording.   It offers UHD 4k at 30fps and keeping up with the Google Nexus 6p of last year it retains the slow motion mode that made it competitive with the iPhone 6s and 7.  However there are no further improvements when it comes to frame rates above 240fps.  It is however a much better phone with faster CPU and GPU which should help with all imaging tasks.

The new Pixel Phones are by any measure the flagship Android phone for those seeking Google update support and a more pure Stock Android OS experience. You get the benefit of no bloatware, No Android skinning  and up to date updates that made the Nexus line of phones so desirable to users of the platform.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Casio EX-FR200 360 Cam has a Slowmo Mode!

Casio EX-FR200

The Casio EX-FR200 is a weird camera in many respects. It’s 180 degree fish eye lens makes spherical imaging and the entire lens and sensor assembly detaches for remote operation.  With the aid of a second lens and sensor module you can take 360 degree images and footage for a VR wrapper compatible with YouTube 360.

The camera modules can be bought separate and controlled from the main body unit without the need to buy two full pieces of kit.  If you were trying to get into the Youtube 360 and VR video panoramic craze this is an easy way to do it. Price is not yet specified but we expect it to be competitive with high end GoPros or USD $450 and below.  The camera is not dive proof see below…[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←
