Garmin has decided to upgrade their action VIRB cameras to a more competitive GoPro Like form factor with an impressive set of features that is sure to make adrenaline enthusiasts think twice about what camera to get.
What sets it apart is that the new Garmin VIRB cameras record, altitude, GPS, velocity, rotation, temperature in the file information as vectors to be applied to the footage later for analysis. The new Sony FDR-X1000V Action cam has been arriving to users and there is a lot to like. For starters the image stabilization while “Digital only not optical” is excellent and something GoPro needs to include in it’s offerings. There is some stuttering in heavy motion but does work very well. Resolution will be reduced by stabilization as the image borders are cropped on the Sony FDR-X1000V.
The color is very saturated the low light beats the GoPro easily when it comes to detail. It is still no low light champ but it does offer better performance than the Hero 4 Black.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
On February 4th GoPro released the firmware version 2.0 for the GoPro Hero 4 Black and Silver cameras. There has now been a large adoption of the firmware in the hands of owners and there is no indication of problems or stability issues with the update. The update includes a 240fps 720p upgrade from the previous 120fps and it looks and works very good. A 2.7k 60fps mode is also included which is a first for a camera in this price range.
What had been just a rumor just a few months ago before the release of the Hero 4 Black now its a reality. The camera will regain the feature of 240fps at 720p which it was rumored and lost at launch. All rumors speculated that this frame rate would be included but was scrapped at the last minute. Be it stability or heat concerns, the extra slow motion spec is now going to be brought to life by a firmware update.
