Ono U1 Resurfaces Attends GSMA Mobile WC!

Ono U1 U1 Labs

The Ono U1 Smartphone is showing signs of life again after almost completely disappearing from existence.   The team has posted a Facebook update that shows their upcoming participation in the GSMA Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2016 June 29th to July 1st.

As to what they will present we are not sure; there are questions on the post by interested people about the 480fps frame rate capability on the Ono U1 already and so far no answers have been posted, but that could change.  We may actually see a phone by then and if high frame rates are included it will be a welcome surprise.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Galaxy S7 Slow Motion Samples!

GalaxyS7WR

Seems that Samsung has hit a home run with the Galaxy S7 smartphone release. It has broken their order records and they are positioned to report improved earnings of 10.4% in part because of the S7.  It seems the decision to re introduce water resistance, a swappable battery and expandable memory has given back some of the identity they lost with the S6 line.

This time we look at the recent footage from owners of the phone to see the slow motion quality improvements made to the phone. While they skipped full HD 1080p 120fps which the iPhone 6s has; they did improve the 720p mode with 240fps.  It is time to see what they were able to achieve for high frame rate quality.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Galaxy S7 brings 240fps at 720p but Skips FHD!

GalaxyS7edgeBR

Mobile World Congress in Barcelona came and went and two phones are the real stars of the show. The Galaxy S7 by Samsung and the LG G5 which are both of the most anticipated Android phones ever. The Korean companies go head to head on features and looks and while they are close in specs they differ a lot when it comes to camera specs and the fine details.

The LG G5 disappoints by only being able to record at 1080p 60fps which tops it’s frame rate recording. This is even a step down from the LG G4 which recorded 120fps at 720p. The LG G5 as a slow motion phone is now off the table. Which leaves us with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and it’s near twin the Galaxy S7 Edge with a curved screen but same specs.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Xiaomi Mi5 and Other Phones Rumored at MWC!

MWC2016

MWC – Mobile World Congress in Barcelona which takes place next week from February 22 to 25th has been heating up the rumor mill when it comes to phone announcements. CES was kind of a weak show for mobile announcements but the MWC Barcelona event will correct all that with many new phones announced.

As we only cover gear that is capable of shooting high frame rates for slow motion video there are some rumored phones that just jump out.  It seems that 120fps at least at 720p is now commonplace enough not to warrant a lot of scrutiny but now the trend is 120fps 1080p and 240fps at 720p as a new standard for flagship phones started by the iPhone 6s and cemented by the Huawei Nexus 6p of 2015.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Ono U1 Resurfaces on Indiegogo but Why?

The Ono U1 Beast smartphone by U1 Labs has yet to see the light of day as a shipping product. There have been several setbacks to the project but they seem to still keep the flame alive by having the hardware finished and polishing the software constantly to get to a ship ready state.

The latest info pushes for a February release of a slow motion video sample at the spec of 480fps. This will be a real video and not an interpolated sample like the one released before which used the Android camera to deliver slow motion video based on standard frame rate footage.   Now the talk in the forums is when will backers and early buyers get the phone if at all. The handset was supposed to be in the hands of backers in late 2015 especially taking in mind the holidays as a Christmas present.  That did not materialize as expected due to software delays.  However the company honored early backers with refunds for the entire amount. These early backers will still get the phone with no out of money cost. This would be a great thing for backers but this put stresses on the actual company making the necessary revenue unless they have investors footing the bill.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Five Best Slowmo Cameras of 2015!

BestCameras2015pic

The end of 2015 is upon us and now it is time to look back and see what the year brought us in the shape of affordable slow motion gear.  While many cameras had higher frame rates, only a few really shined and delivered on the promise of offering HD quality and higher than normal frames per second in an attractive price point and one that you may already own if you have a recent mobile device.

Many promised and didn’t deliver and some have yet to ship which means they will not be counted in the running. Only cameras that are shipping and fully available are being considered for this list. Other cameras like the edgertronic offer better quality slow motion at higher frame rates for a  similar price but this list is only about cameras introduced in 2015.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←
