Slow Motion Videos End Of Year

2014_2015

2014 has been a very interesting year for slow motion. We saw a new crop of cameras sport frame rates that will set new standards for affordable slowmo for years to come. We had the edgertronic shipping in quantity and the Kickstarter fps1000 surprise that promises unrivaled slow motion in full HD and even 4k at unheard of prices.  Phones like the iPhone 6 now sport 240fps and the Mediatek MT6595, MT6795 chips offer the possibility of 480fps at full 1080p.

2015 will probably be the year of the slow motion HD phone as it seems the feature is a way for brands to differentiate phone specs.  Like the megapixel spec race, the slow-mo race is now in motion.   We want to share some of the slow motion footage we have come across this year and thank you again for your support. This site was started at the beginning of the year with an idea and it has turned into an evolving resource for many camera enthusiasts to look for the latest in slow motion cameras on a budget. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony Sensor Destined for Hi Speed Camera?

SonySensor

A rumored Sony sensor  part code IMX189AEG  has been captivating the camera rumor world last week. The specs seem almost like a fictionalized version of a wish list but it may well be not only real but a sign of things to come in sensor technology. The sensor specs are as follows:

  • 6K Video at 240fps
  • 2K Video at up to 16,000fps 16 bit
  • 1080p  max 24,000fps
  • 1.5″ Sensor Close to Micro 4/3ds size
  • 4.85 megapixels using Active Pixel Color Sampling
  • Global Shutter
  • Native ISO of 5120
  • Max ISO 655,360

Active Pixel Color Sampling reads RGB signals on a single pixel so a 4.85 Megapixel sensor equates to a Bayer pattern sensor of about 15 Megapixels. This creates huge pixel spaces and increased dynamic range along with faster read out times and a global shutter. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

iPhone 6 Slow Motion Samples!

We have gathered a few iPhone 6 slow motion samples that show the strength and weaknesses of the phone.  Noise wise it is a great performer and the quality of the codec looks to be very good.  Aliasing and moire is still a problem as there seems to be some line skipping to generate 120fps and 240fps. There is also a drop in quality in 240p compared to 120p. We estimate that more likes are skipped to get to 240p but it is still not to bad a drop.

We however can deem it the best quality slow motion from a phone so far released.  You can’t go wrong with the iPhone 6 as a slow motion portable device, especially if your phone contract is renewing.  Competition will heat up in the slow motion phone race when Mediatek releases phones by the end of this year with higher capabilities and full HD 1080p. Until those are released and tested the iPhone 6 is kind of the slow-mo phones…Enjoy the samples! → Continue Reading Full Post ←
