Lumix GH5 10 Must See Videos!

Lumix GH5 VFR Mode Menu

Seems like the GH5 introduction has really made a splash on the web, TV tech news media and in enthusiast circles. The spec sheet alone is the most advanced of any DSLR or Mirror-less camera to date concerning the acquisition of professional video.  There is however one setting that does interest us more than any other and that is the  180fps VFR mode on 1080p resolution.

Slow motion samples are very hard to come by on this pre production camera for what seems to be an unofficial lock on that feature with testers according to some rumors. However we have learned that the feature is not locked and it is available to everyone on the test units but it requires UHS II U3 SDXC cards which many users simply did not have available. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Panasonic GH5

In what could be called a very tight circle of people in the know with no severe leaks until yesterday the Panasonic GH5 was a pretty well controlled launch.  No one was really sure about the maximum frame rate at 1080p until a couple of days back when some leaks in Asia started to circulate 180fps in FHD as the number and sure enough the final spec did just that.

The GH4 was and continues to be a camera of choice for many video enthusiasts and film-makers so it was a tall order to best the camera and force a loyal following to upgrade and continue the cycle of continued improvements and sales. Sony FDR-X3000 4K Action Cam Update!

Sony FDR-X3000

In a very quiet update last week Sony released a low end action camera to cater to the lower end crowd that wants better performance than the current GoPro options but with a limited budget resource. In comes the Sony FDR-X3000 4K Action Camera that brings 4k and impressive image stabilization to the $399 USD action camera bracket.

The big deal in this camera is the Balanced Optical SteadyShot (or B.O.S.S.) which uses the entire optical lens path to reduce vibration and motion. Previous systems only moved an element inside the lens to alter the light path. The new system is  more effective at reducing rolling shutter artifacts and wearer induced motion to produce stable and less jittery video even at 4k. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

CANON EOS C700 AND XC15 Announced!

EOS_C700

Canon has been in the news lately considering its 5D Mark IV refresh that gathered a lot of attention from it’s improvements in photo quality but shortcomings when it comes to video mode. Today they released a new Camera the Canon EOS C700 which is now at the top of their cinema line in both cost and features; the other is a refresh named the XC15 of last year’s XC10 which was a strange camera by any measure.

Both of these two new products by Canon have higher frame rates as options for recording which we monitor closely. There is a huge hurdle to get in on the C700with a $28,000 USD price tag without modules. The XC15 is much lower at the $2,399 USD MSRP mark. We dig in in what it means for slow motion shooters when it comes to this gear below → Continue Reading Full Post ←
