High frame rates have been stagnant in DSLRs since the Canon EOS 7D with 60fps at pseudo 720p resolution started the higher than 30p spec in mirrored large sensor cameras.
Now – a new rumor posted at Nikorumors.com of the Nikon D7200 DSLR which is replacing the very popular D7100, seems to gain 60fps at 720p to do a total of 120fps at 720p for the first time in a mirrored camera. On February 4th GoPro released the firmware version 2.0 for the GoPro Hero 4 Black and Silver cameras. There has now been a large adoption of the firmware in the hands of owners and there is no indication of problems or stability issues with the update. The update includes a 240fps 720p upgrade from the previous 120fps and it looks and works very good. A 2.7k 60fps mode is also included which is a first for a camera in this price range.
Mediatek posted a video a few days ago showing the 480fps Full HD capability of it’s MT6795 chip. It shows the clip at regular speed then at 120fps and then finally at 480fps full HD. As to the quality some speculate the footage is not shot by a Phone but from a real high speed camera. The specs for the newest and greatest ARM phone chip the A72, show that it is close to 3.5 times more powerful than ARM’s previously released Cortex-A15. It is also powerful enough to record and process 4K video at a rate of 120 frames per second.
While the specs of this 32 and 64bit capable chip look mighty impressive it is a predictor of things to come. These reference design chips are used for example by Apple in their A architecture because the company has an architectural license agreement with ARM; that has proved to be an amazing performer because Apple tweaks the design to perform incredibly fast in their devices sometimes above 50% from the reference design in some specific applications.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
There is a rumor that may become real in the coming days of the release of the HTC A55 Desire Phone with the Mediatek MT6795 chip capable of true slow motion in full HD 1080p at 480fps. The specs are as follows:
