Yi 4k+ Slow Motion Samples!

Yi 4k+ Slow Motion Samples

The Yi Technology Yi 4k+ has been shipping for a few days and now slow motion samples have been posted online. There is no question the Yi 4k+ is the best value in action cameras today with specs that reach 4k at 60fps and up to 240fps in 720p Wide mode.

There is, of course, a resolution decrease and softness increase when it reduces the frame size to extract frames but it is within the norm and very competitive image quality wise with GoPro Hero 5 and Sony Action cam.  There are nearly identical components inside the Yi 4k+ to other action cameras and the Ambarella H2 Chipset makes its debut on the Yi line with good performance.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Chronos 1.4 Update 4 and Yi 4k+ Ships!

Chronos 1.4

The Chronos 1.4 camera is nearing the ship date with early bird units now scheduled to be shipped end of April or beginning of May.  The delay as stated in update #3 is due to some LCD parts not performing as indicated and the manufacturer taking longer than anticipated. All other components are ready for assembly.

As far as FCC & CE emissions approval, tests are still ongoing and look promising.  If nothing else changes early bird backers should start to get their Chronos 1.4 in 4 weeks time. For non early bird backers expect a similar delay time frame to your orders. Once the cameras start shipping the time delay should compress with assembly, testing and packaging being the only steps.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Yi 4k+ Leaves Slowmo Unchanged in HD!

Yi 4k+

The Xiaomi Yi 4k+ Camera announced today at CES is revolutionary just barely by it’s 4k 60fps spec which is ahead of all other action cameras in the market. However 1080p and 720p resolutions have not seen a bump in frame rates with the cameras still doing the same specs as last year’s Yi 4k camera which is in turn the same spec as the GoPro Hero 4, 5 and Sony X3000 Action cameras.

The YI 4K+ uses the newest Amba H2 SOC, the first 14nm video processing/encoding SOC part which is quite fast and on the spec list fast enough for 120fps at 4k on AVCHD encode.  This pixel rate is fast enough for 240fps at full 1080p or  480fps at 720p without maxing the system.  Yi 4k+ however has remained conservative due to hardware limitations in other areas like imaging sensor and memory allocation to just 4k 60p recording.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony a6500 New Slow Motion Samples!

Sony a6500 New Slow Motion Samples

We have now a fairly good amount of slow motion samples for the Sony a6500 compact APS-C Camera to share with you.  It is clear that the quality this camera can provide is above the norm but we still do see some aliasing in diagonal fine lines which is to be expected by a sensor that is skipping some of the lines to achieve 1080p 120fps.

While the 4k UHD in this camera is derived from an oversampling of 6k; the 1080p 120fps is being extracted from a 24.2MP sensor using a 13MP effective crop factor 1.9x;  is throwing away some line information to get there. Also the camera caps frame rate output over HDMI at 60fps so there is no way to record super slow motion to an external recorder at 120fps.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Galaxy Note 7 Slow Motion Samples!

Galaxy Note 7

As expected the Galaxy Note 7 was announced this week and has the same camera specs as the most popular flagship phone from Samsung the Galaxy S7.  It does have some new tricks up it’s sleeve aside from the customary S Pen. It has for the first time in a Samsung phone an Iris scanner for security unlocking and now USB Type C which many phones already sport.

It is basically a Galaxy S7 Edge with a larger screen, a pen and an Iris Scanner with IP68 Water resistance.  We would not take it in the ocean but should withstand moderate immersion and or splashes. This may be the best Note phone yet but it is also the most uneventful in the line since most if it’s specs are already present in the S7 line.  The Note phones used to be about the most forward looking specs, this time around Samsung stuck with the proven  formula of the S7 which is the #1 Selling Android phone for 2016.[...] → Continue Reading Full Post ←
