Olympus Tough TG-5 Digital Camera 120fps 1080p!

Olympus Tough TG-5

Olympus is announcing the TG-5 rugged camera which is the replacement for the popular TG-4. It has quite a number of new features and what may be a first for this type of cameras; a sensor pixel density reduction from 16MP to 12MP. A welcomed addition that will ensure better low light quality with a BSI CMOS sensor and speedier data acquisition which lets it output 4k and 120fps 1080p video.

It has also a 720p 240fps mode and a VGA 480fps mode which makes it stand out in the slow motion categories. This camera seems to be aiming at the GoPro Hero 5, Yi 4k+ and Sony Action Camera markets with more features, better usability and the features you expect from a portable camera. It can also be used in drones with some creative placement due to its low weight of 250g with battery!

Galaxy S8 Slow Motion Samples!

Galaxy S8 Slow Motion Samples

There was a lot of commotion online when the rumors of the Galaxy S8 having 1000 fps video surfaced. However that turned out to be pure unfounded speculation. Still the phone did offer slow motion of 240fps at 720p which is not bad for a phone but hardly flagship these days. Still that does not detract from the ability to capture cool slow-mo shots.

The quality is close to 720p on the Galaxy S8 but not entirely there. We see some softness, aliasing and moire in the shots with a tendency to be more apparent in diagonal lines and repeating detail textures.  Still the quality is on par with the iPhone 7 and Google Pixel XL phones. We have gathered a few samples for you to judge.

Slow Motion Videos Of The Week Jan 20th 2017!

Slow Motion Videos Of The Week

After the few camera announcements at CES that have a slow motion component there is little on the hardware side until CP+ Expo in Japan on Thursday, February 23 to Sunday, February 26, 2017.   Fuji Just announced a few cameras but the maximum frame rate on those is 60fps 1080p so we really have no interest in covering them at HSC. Our coverage starts at 720p 120fps and up.

However there is a lot of new slow motion footage on the web lately and we really have to marvel at the ingenuity, skill and risk taking to get it done.  We have a few footage samples from this week that we believe you should check out. Remember to visit and subscribe if you like the footage so the creators can keep pushing the envelope.

Lenovo ZUK Z2 960fps Slow Motion Just Interpolation!

Lenovo Zuk Z2

The slow motion phone that was gathering a lot of interest regarding it’s capability was the Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro with a spec reported to be 960fps.  Such a spec would leapfrog the current iPhone 6s and Google’s Nexus 6P 240fps 720p spec. However it seems such bold claims are usually met with a reality that does not match such claims.

The Youtube channel C4ETech “Subscribe Here” has had a go with the Zuk Z2 and found that the spec is pretty much smoke and mirrors. The 960fps spec which was supposed to be HD quality and full frames is nothing more than 120fps 720p interpolated by software up to 960fps. It doesn’t even allow real 240fps like other competitive phone options.

Zuk Z2 960fps video resolution decoded!

Zuk Z2 Lenovo

The Zuk Z2 has been released and as it’s customary from many manufacturers they omit the slow motion or just mention it as an afterthought.  According to the press release it does support 960fps video recording but nothing else is mentioned.   There is a mention of the feature still not active in the pre release phone due to software lag which will be released at a later date.

That however has not deterred us from crunching some numbers and getting a good estimate from the Samsung 13MP ISOCELL sensor used  which gives us clues as to what to expect in terms of higher frame rate support.  lets dig in!
