Olympus OM-D E-M10 III has 120fps 720p Mode!

Olympus OM-D E-M10 III Slow Motion

The new Olympus OM-D E-M10 III release has for the first time introduced for the line some sort of slow motion feature. While not much it should be noted that Olympus has the best 5 axis image stabilization in-body system when it comes to jitter reduction and overall look.  Even while running or walking the camera does an admirable job.

The Panasonic GH5 has a similar system but Olympus still has the edge in performance by having much less shake with their patented solution. This is great for shooting video and this camera with 4k recording is probably one of the most stable handheld solutions for shooting UHD. The addition of a 720p 120fps mode while not ideal; is great to have especially if stabilized. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony Xperia XZ1 Rumors Say 960fps Feature!

Sony Xperia XZ1

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Rumors about a 5.2″ HDR screen phone in the XZ line include the Motion Eye feature of 960fps video capture.  The Xperia XZs and XZ Premium earlier this year showed off Sony’s new slow motion capabilities when it comes to mobile sensor packages. The quality on those phones aims for 720p at 960fps and while it has some artifacts it is still usable.

We expect the Motion Eye Feature of the XZ1 to be the same as in other XZ phones which lasts under one second of recording at 720p 960fps. The Phone leaks also suggests the same sensor block which at 19MP is identical to previous XZ releases with Motion Eye.  The Phone will also have 4k 30p and 60fps 1080p recording.   → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Canon C200 Cinema Camera 120fps Slowmo!

Canon C200

There is no question Canon has had great success with their EOS Cinema line of cameras. They continue to dominate the rental production market and even when they are overpriced compared to competitor’s options it is in a class of its own when it comes to Dual Pixel Continuous AF with Canon EF lenses which are plentiful and part of the stable of most serious camera professionals.

The latest iteration just announced is the Canon EOS C200 EF Cinema Camera which has some serious performance improvements over the current price/performance kind in their camera line. The new camera slots between the lower priced C100 Mark II and the more professional 4k C300 Mark II. However the C200 records in 4k RAW Light format which gives 15 stops of dynamic range with all the benefits of RAW editing with some compression. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Yi 4k+ Slow Motion Samples!

Yi 4k+ Slow Motion Samples

The Yi Technology Yi 4k+ has been shipping for a few days and now slow motion samples have been posted online. There is no question the Yi 4k+ is the best value in action cameras today with specs that reach 4k at 60fps and up to 240fps in 720p Wide mode.

There is, of course, a resolution decrease and softness increase when it reduces the frame size to extract frames but it is within the norm and very competitive image quality wise with GoPro Hero 5 and Sony Action cam.  There are nearly identical components inside the Yi 4k+ to other action cameras and the Ambarella H2 Chipset makes its debut on the Yi line with good performance. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Jvc LS300 Firmware 4.0 Outputs 4k 60p!

Jvc LS300 Firmware 4.0

The JVC GY-LS300 camera had a firmware update last year that permitted the camera to shoot at 120fps full HD. Now the company is releasing a new update that adds the capability of recording of 4:2:2 (8-bit) 4K @ 24/25/30p video to internal storage. The camera previously only recorded at 4:2:0 color space.  Not only that, the camera now can output to the Ninja Inferno external recorder a 4k UHD stream at 50p or 60p for 4k slow motion goodness.

The Version 4.0 firmware upgrade is free of charge for all current GY-LS300 owners and will be available in late May.  This camera seems to continue to be supported by JVC due to its popularity and seems, for now, to be their best bet to offer a camera that competes with the Sony FS5 or Panasonic DVX 200 for example with a low price of around $2600 USD. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony Xperia XZ Premium Slow Motion Shooting!

Sony Xperia XZ Premium Slow Motion

We already stated that the Slow Motion performance of the Sony Xperia XZs & XZ premium should be identical given that they share the exact same camera module based on a stacked memory sensor design. However many readers have asked if there is a difference between both phones.  Considering the latest samples released we can state that when it comes to slow motion shooting the XZs & XZ premium are identical.

The camera has a slow motion mode that takes very short bursts about 0.2 sec each to generate slow motion video in a 720p H.264 video stream. It is limited and you need trial and error to succeed but in the end, you can get terrific looking high-speed video that simply is unmatched by any other smartphone to date. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
