Galaxy S20 Slow Motion will improve 960fps !

The recently announced Galaxy S20 phone line has been making some waves with impressive specs especially related to the camera modules. As always we are only interested here in the high speed video specs here at HSC “not even the new 8k video spec” and the new phones are an improvement over the S10 and Note 10 lines. However, it is important to note that not all S20s will share the same slow motion specs and that is what this post is about.

You may think that the S20 Ultra 5G will be the easy choice here but it is hardly as straight forward as that. The amount of technology packed in the Ultra phone along with four camera modules and one of them at over 100MP means they prioritized photo resolution over video shooting in their sensor selection. Google Pixel 4 Slow Motion Specs Unchanged!

Today Google unveiled the heavily leaked Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL phones which have the latest and greatest camera module geared up for computational photography enthusiasts. It brings in the dual camera back design of many competitors and also drops the notch in turn for a thicker bezel which looks in our view better. The phone is sporting the latest Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of fast flash memory.

Sadly the phone is keeping the exact same high frame rate specs of the Pixel 3 of last year. So 240fps is staying at 720p and 120fps at 1080p is the max at that resolution. It is clear Google is not interested in delivering performance in high frame rates like their rivals in the Android space. Even Apple offers a much better 1080p 240fps spec which is offered on the back cameras with little trouble. Even the iPhone 11 bests the Pixel 4 in the Selfie department as it allows up to 120fps 1080p for (Slofies™) which is a prominent feature of the handset. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Canon G7 X III and G5 X II Released With 120fps Full HD!

The newly released Canon G7 X III and G5 X II Powershot cameras are finally upping the stagnant slow motion features of these lines to a very 2014 spec of 120fps Full HD. Up to now Canon had capped the Full HD Performance at 60fps 1080p and a maximum of 120fps at 720p with a severe crop. There is no mention of a 240fps 720p spec which makes us believe that there is no 720p video option besides maybe a 30p mode.

Both cameras sport a 20.1MP 1″ inch Stacked CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor reminiscent of the Sony RX series. We estimate this might be the same Sony sensor employed but without the super slow motion capabilities of 480/500fps and 960/1000fps modes that have made that line of cameras a cut apart. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Lumix G95 120fps Full HD and Why Its a Pass!

Let us start by saying that we are huge fans of the Lumix line by Panasonic and their cameras in general. The GH5 is still a powerhouse of a camera for serious video work and the 180fps FUll HD slow motion is better than many others before or since at that frame rate while at 120fps is as good as the best Sonys out there. However, the recently announced Lumix G95 drops the ball in several fronts when it comes to really good video performance which has become a trademark for Panasonic.

The G95 has all the looks and character of a great hybrid camera but has a crippled video mode that may put off many buyers looking for the perfect intermediate camera. The 4k, for example, has a 1.25x crop on top of the nearly 2x crop of the micro 4/3 sensor. Making it a little larger than the area of a 1″ sensor. OnePlus 6T Official Slow Motion Video Released!

OnePlus has released the official OnePlus 6T slow motion 480fps promotional video with high production values. It is all shot with the phone and while you can see the jaggies and edge artifacts from resolution loss, it offers pretty compelling color and dynamic range for a phone. The 3.75 second rec time at 480fps turns out 1800frames or 30-sec playback at 30fps.

The OnePlus6 & 6T which offer essentially the same camera and high fps component are in the running for our slow-motion phone of the year along with the close competition from the Samsung Note 9 and Galaxy S9. However, the usefulness of the OnePlus 6 devices with much more recording allowance is a very big differentiator that in reality should impact your purchase decision much more than 960fps. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

OnePlus 6T Keeps 480fps Along With Some New Features!

It seems that phones have been coming out every couple of days this year and OnePlus with a still nearly brand new and fully relevant flagship on the OnePlus 6 is now releasing the updated OnePlus 6T which has a slightly larger screen, smaller notch, a few photo features and an in-glass fingerprint reader which may be reason enough to get one as it may cause friend envy.

The video modes remain as good as the OnePlus 6 which uses the same exact camera configuration in hardware but with some software tweaks to photo modes for better people, food and text capture. The Slow motion component is kept the same as well with 1080p 240fps and 720p at 480fps with a one minute or 60 seconds playback at regular 30p speed from the 480p initial capture.
