GoPro Hero 6 Black & Sony AX-700 HFR Details!

GoPro Hero 6 Black

The GoPro Hero 6 Black was announced yesterday and is identical to the leaks that appeared last week from packaging. This is a good thing but we were expecting the 720p mode to allow for 480fps and VGA to allow 960fps as it is customary for GoPro to include higher frame rates the lower the resolution windowed on the sensor drops.

The camera however now takes the crown once again for performance in higher frame rates and includes the 4k 60fps spec which we saw debut earlier on the Yi 4k+ action camera. Also, it brings in an unexpected 2.7k 120fps spec that takes it one notch higher than any other portable cam out there.  1080p 240fps was expected and brings it in line with Phones like the iPhone 8 and X. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

iPhone 7 Slow Motion Tests and Examples!

iPhone 7 Slow Motion

We waited long enough and now we have real world samples and comparison tests from the iPhone 7 in regards to higher frame rates. The iPhone 6s was the king of slow motion quality last year and now there were high hopes for the iPhone 7 to continue that reign however what comes down to is a mix of technology stagnation with a measure of slight improvement when it comes to shutter speed control and detail.

The iPhone 7 does 120fps 1080p as well as 720p at 240fps which is the same spec as last year’s iPhone 6s and a continuation of the feature. It has been used in many productions big and small as a crash camera for hard to get shots and some fun slow motion YouTube clips. The iPhone 7 may not be the best slow motion phone out there when it comes to quality but since it is the most ubiquitous; we are sure to see it grace your screen more often than the competition. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

iPhone 7 Slow Motion Remains The Same!

iPhone 7 camera

There was a lot of expectation regarding the slow motion capability of the iPhone 7.  Apple has been dominating the spec since the early days on the iPhone 4s. However while the processing and sensor quality have improved; the resolution and frame rates have stayed the same in the iPhone 7.   There are huge speed increases and much more memory available to do a lot of things in video but Apple has chosen to stay at the same spec level in it’s latest phone.

The slow motion performance of the phone has improved with every iteration when it comes to quality and it will probably have a better dynamic range rating as well as better overall noise control. The spec remains at the top range in smart phones but it is not pushing the boundaries of what can be done in current hardware. We were expecting 480fps at 720p and 240fps at 1080p as possibly moving forward with the feature. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Android Camera App Now Has New Slowmo Mode!

android-logo

The latest update of the Google Android Camera App on Android Marshmallow OS which is available on Nexus devices like the Google Nexus 5p and 6p has now a dedicated Slow motion mode built in the GUI menus.

The Slow motion mode on these devices used to be buried in the video options menu but now has a more prominent role in the Camera Menu that slides out.  While support is limited to Google Nexus devices for now, it seems that Slow motion might be an increasingly important feature for smartphones. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Nexus 6P Slow Motion is a real iPhone Competitor!

Nexus6Pslowmo

The Nexus 6P has had a rough start due to it’s somewhat lackluster build quality that buckled on the bend tests against the improved iPhone 6s which fixed that problem that appeared on the iPhone 6. However that does not detract from the fact that the Nexus 6P is a serious powerhouse of specs and camera performance which brings true competition at 120fps and 240fps quality against the iPhone hegemony.

The compression has been improved and the scaling is actually pretty good generating fewer artifacts than ever before on an Android Phone slow motion mode.  While there is a bit of Moire and aliasing in the images especially at 240fps, it is in line to what the iPhone 6s delivers.  That is why we ranked them side by side on our best slow motion cameras of 2015. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Nexus 6P Slow Motion Quality is Great!

Nexus5x6p

Now that the Nexus 6P has been getting into the hands of reviewers you can clearly see that the slow motion mode has great quality.  It has audio same as the iPhone and the resolution in 240fps mode is on Par or might be better than the iPhone 6s.  Testing side by side will be a way to put that to rest but it is clear Google and Huawei have made the camera in the Nexus 6P a real contender for quality.

It is easy to see that the quality at 240fps has very good color rendition, line resolution and very very low artifacts.  We can finally see an alternative to the iPhone line when it comes to slow motion in the Nexus 6P phone.  Samsung has 120fps in their flagship phones which isn’t bad but at 720p and with aliasing artifacts it is no real contender. Look at the samples below to check the Nexus 6P showing it’s prowess when it comes to high frame rate video recording. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
