Out of left field the latest Sharp Aquos Zeta SH-03G, Aquos Xx and Aquos Serie SHV32 – 2015 model smart phones based on Android; claim to deliver up to 2100fps high speed video at 854 x 480 pixels or 1200 fps in full HD 1080p mode. As to those claims as anything that sounds too good to be true it regularly is. These phones are no different to these superlative claims.
The Phones actually do shoot high speed video but not anywhere close to the claimed extremely high frame rates. The most they do is 210fps at 854*480 pixels and at full 1080p a frame rate of 120fps which is quite good for a smartphone.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
The rumor mill is heating up when it comes to the third generation Moto X phone from Motorola Mobility. The struggling company subset of the once mighty Motorola went from selling their mobile phone arm to Google in 2011; which then offloaded in 2014 to Chinese Lenovo best known as a PC manufacturer that took over the manufacturing and re branding of IBM Laptops.
The Moto X has been a popular phone but not one with class leading specs. As it turns out the rumors still follow the mantra of being a follower in feature set rather than being innovators. The phones haven’t been stale hardware; far from it actually. On the eve of March 31, 1999 the world was exposed to a new type of visual effect thanks to the release of a movie that changed and influenced movies for the next decade. The Bullet Time effect as it came to be known created a sense of slow motion combined with orbiting camera motion that let you for the first time move away from the constraints of a stationary or dolly only camera move.
Looks like the rumors got it wrong again in regards to the 240fps for the Samsung Galaxy S6. They did however hit it with the 720p at 120fps slow motion mode for both the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 phones. This is basically the same spec most high end phones that did slow motion sported. What broke the trend is the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with 240fps at 720p.
It is almost March 1st which is the day set for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9. Both devices are the flagship phones for their respective brands for the year and a lot is hanging for the success of these devices to steal the thunder from the Apple iPhone 6.
The specs for the newest and greatest ARM phone chip the A72, show that it is close to 3.5 times more powerful than ARM’s previously released Cortex-A15. It is also powerful enough to record and process 4K video at a rate of 120 frames per second.
While the specs of this 32 and 64bit capable chip look mighty impressive it is a predictor of things to come. These reference design chips are used for example by Apple in their A architecture because the company has an architectural license agreement with ARM; that has proved to be an amazing performer because Apple tweaks the design to perform incredibly fast in their devices sometimes above 50% from the reference design in some specific applications.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
