The MIT Edgerton Centeris offering a new 4 day in depth course in high speed imaging at their Cambridge, MA Campus. The Edgerton center is as you guessed it the DOC Edgerton building named after the famous high speed imaging researcher and inventor. It is also the main inspiration for the edgertronic high speed camera. It could be a great way to get exposed to the latest gear from the top manufacturers of high speed cameras and learn techniques, lighting for hi speed and problem solving.
HIGH-SPEED IMAGING FOR MOTION ANALYSIS: SYSTEMS AND TECHNIQUES
With 4k TVs, projectors and computer displays entering the marketplace in droves it is only a matter of time until 4k finds it’s way into the super slow motion realm for TV, Cinema and scientific analysis.
There is a strong argument for the increased resolution when it comes to capturing at 4k in any frame rate. It gives freedom to crop or punch in for a Full HD shot and or stabilize footage with crop leeway on the borders without trashing a shot. It is also crisp in a way that can only be described as looking through a window; which is a funny analogy because when Full HD came out in the early 2000s that was used often to sell TVs and the new experience. Now we are told the real window is 4k and your perfectly functional 1080p 240Hz tv is next to useless. This is of course hardly a realistic view or currently installed TV technology.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
On the eve of March 31, 1999 the world was exposed to a new type of visual effect thanks to the release of a movie that changed and influenced movies for the next decade. The Bullet Time effect as it came to be known created a sense of slow motion combined with orbiting camera motion that let you for the first time move away from the constraints of a stationary or dolly only camera move.
Sometimes the best available slow motion camera is a professional one that is a used piece of gear that is sold for much much less than the original price tag.
We usually steer clear away from these cameras for the enormous prices unless we find huge deals; these still might be too expensive for the average Joe but if you have the required capital and absolutely need a serious slow motion camera on a discount now keep reading:→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
Next week January 6-9, in Las Vegas Nevada the 2015 CES show will take place. Usually the show doesn’t show much in the way of hi speed but a few gems have come out of the show in the past like the Panasonic W850 & V750 which a year later still hold their own as the best slow motion general purpose camcorders in quality with the 9th and 10th place in our slow-mo camera guide. These have recently come down in price considerably!
