In what may be the most important announcement of 2015for affordable slow motion video; Sony has unveiled the DSC RX10II (DSC-RX10M2) which is the DSLR like long zoom pro-sumer camera direct replacement of the RX10 and the DSC RX100 IV (DSC-RX100M4) a3x zoom compact camera a replacement of the RX100 III of last year. The kicker here is the amazingly featured super slow motion mode offering 120fps, 240fps, 480fps all the way up to 960fps with a pre trigger function and using the XAVC S Codec in a 1080p frame.
Out of left field the latest Sharp Aquos Zeta SH-03G, Aquos Xx and Aquos Serie SHV32 – 2015 model smart phones based on Android; claim to deliver up to 2100fps high speed video at 854 x 480 pixels or 1200 fps in full HD 1080p mode. As to those claims as anything that sounds too good to be true it regularly is. These phones are no different to these superlative claims.
The Phones actually do shoot high speed video but not anywhere close to the claimed extremely high frame rates. The most they do is 210fps at 854*480 pixels and at full 1080p a frame rate of 120fps which is quite good for a smartphone.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
Kinefinity a relatively new company that specializes in digital cinema cameras is about to release to customers theKINEMAX 6kcapable camera. At first glance it looks like a RED Epic clone as the body and design aesthetics suggest however their technology is in house and their prices are much more accessible. The company is based in Beijing China and two of their cameras now offer high quality slow motion modes.
We are doing an in depth review of the affordableedgertronic digital high speed camerathat should be published soon, however one of the tests involved showing how the shutter curtain mechanism works on the Panasonic GH4 at different speeds. FLIR Systems the company that makes the very cool and portable phone and tablet thermal imaging camera attachment: The FLIR Oneis now adding a new product to their arsenal of thermal imaging infra red cameras. The FLIR X69SC is capable of near VGA resolution at up to 1000fps in full thermal analysis mode which is a very impressive spec for the technology.
Fastec Imaging known for very capable but very expensive high speed cameras for scientific and video production/cinema has announced a new camera based on the same TS3-TS4 Cine platform they initially released a few years back at NAB which has been extremely popular for rental and ownership.
The camera is called the Fastec TS5-H which is an upgrade from previous TS cameras as it delivers full HD performance with a newly developed sensor at speeds up to 634fps at 1080p. 720p on the other hand delivers 943fps which is very close to the 1000fps realm that is almost negligible.
