The Ono U1 Smartphone is showing signs of life again after almost completely disappearing from existence. The team has posted a Facebook update that shows their upcoming participation in the GSMA Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2016 June 29th to July 1st.
As to what they will present we are not sure; there are questions on the post by interested people about the 480fps frame rate capability on the Ono U1 already and so far no answers have been posted, but that could change. We may actually see a phone by then and if high frame rates are included it will be a welcome surprise.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
The Ono U1 Beast smartphone by U1 Labshas yet to see the light of day as a shipping product. There have been several setbacks to the project but they seem to still keep the flame alive by having the hardware finished and polishing the software constantly to get to a ship ready state.
The latest info pushes for a February release of a slow motion video sample at the spec of 480fps. This will be a real video and not an interpolated sample like the one released before which used the Android camera to deliver slow motion video based on standard frame rate footage. Now the talk in the forums is when will backers and early buyers get the phone if at all. The handset was supposed to be in the hands of backers in late 2015 especially taking in mind the holidays as a Christmas present. That did not materialize as expected due to software delays. However the company honored early backers with refunds for the entire amount. These early backers will still get the phone with no out of money cost. This would be a great thing for backers but this put stresses on the actual company making the necessary revenue unless they have investors footing the bill.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
There was quite a bit of controversy last week when u1 Labs did not deliver the reveal of the Ono U1 Beast phone on time, then asked for another 48hrs and then after missing that deadline, hope started to dwindle. However yesterday they released what is supposed to be the first footage of the phone in action along with a slow motion sample that is not really slow motion but just playback at 1/4th speed. However the team behind the Beast at u1 labs have promised once more that real hardware capable 480fps video will be in the device and promise a demo soon afterwards.
The video does show a functional device with a camera app that takes pictures and regular video with software slow down. This is a big step as it shows there is a real phone and not just a render or a concept or OS video captured screen.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
HSC – The Dec 3rd deadline came and went but there was no reveal. There is a statement from the CEO of U1 Labs, creators of the Ono U1 Smartphone, regarding the slip on the reveal.
CEO Statement:
“Dear Fans and Pioneers, we regret to inform that we have a slight delay from the factory. We need approximately 48 hours to reveal the Hands-on and HD images, as we are awaiting for the factory to release them to us.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
There has never been a direct admission that can back real captured frames at 480fps as the Mediatek Helios X10 SoC allows. After repeated attempts by us and other backers or Pioneers as U1 Labs calls their early supporters; nothing can be firmly deduced besides interpolation from lower frame rates like 120fps or 240fps to 480fps. Mediatek Helios X10 supports true 480fps capture in their specs with the use of a specific Sony sensor so there was a promise that it would adhere to these specs.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
The Ono U1 Smartphone reported in a post at HSC earlier this year was stuck between scam-land and outright vaporware with it’s claim of 1080p 480fps video mode based on the Mediatek Helios X10 chip. However it seems the Ono team has persisted and a phone that has been evolving with new features like a fingerprint reader, laser AF, 4GB of RAM, NFC and now Android Marshmallow might see the light of day as soon as the third or fourth week in November.
There has been a lot of interest with this particular phone and with good reason, it could become the phone to beat regarding portable slow motion capable devices. As a Smartphone it will be no slouch is the specs are solid and the phone eventually ships which is still up in the air.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
