Galaxy S10 Should Include 960fps Slow Motion!

Galaxy S10 Slow Motion

The next Galaxy Phone release by Samsung flagship line the Galaxy S10 is due for release this month. The rumor mill is suggesting big improvements in screen size coverage, processing, fingerprint reader below the screen and our main interest slow motion video capture. It seems the next phone will improve on the video quality of the slow motion and may even add better time recording at 960fps 720p but will not introduce higher resolutions.

The Galaxy S9 and Note 9 already handle slow motion very well but we wanted to see better time recording on the 960fps slow motion mode above the fractions of a second offered by last years release. The OnePlus 6, for example, offered 3.75 seconds recording at 480fps which made it our slow motion phone for the 2018 calendar year. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

OSMO Pocket will do 200fps with a catch!

OSMO Pocket 200fps

It looks like DJI has not set in stone the frame rate spec of the recently released OSMO Pocket which we found to be excellent in handling and gives a beautiful low light stabilized image considering the small sensor size and price. It even beat out the GoPro Hero 7 in dynamic range and noise control but fell short of frame rates being on our good side. Thanks to our reader Frank for the tip!

In a new video by Drone NewsGuy from Youtube, the pro app and latest beta firmware for the OSMO Pocket are tested and you can enable a somewhat hidden setting to get 200fps in real terms out of the small device. The catch is that the setting requires the phone app to be activated every time you want to use it and will remain there until you change settings to something else. We would love for DJI to allow the 200fps setting right out of the box on the interface and not only that, allow for even greater fps in 720p mode and even a small VGA mode for users needing that extra frame rate. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony a6400 Brings 120fps AF tracking to the Masses!

Sony a6400 slow motion

The newly announced Sony a6400 is what the a6300 should have been almost two years ago. It is still missing a key feature that was introduced with the a6500 that of IBIS or Sensor Stabilization which works with any lens added to the system. However, if you remove the IBIS fail from the equation this is a killer camera for just $900 which in this day and age of $1000+ cellphones, it is quite a bargain for the body only.

We were amazed by the 120fps full HD quality of other sony alpha cameras like the a9 and the a7 III which fully track subjects while recording in super slow motion which really makes the feature stand out compared to other cameras which force you to go manual while on that mode.  The codec quality has also been bumped in this camera for 120p to 100Mbps from 60Mbps on earlier cameras like the a6300 which should preserve more detail while sacrificing little in image crispness. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Chronos 1.4 Survives 180Gs of Force Strapped on Mower Blade!

Chronos 1.4 Mower

The Tesla500 Youtube Channel is at it again with an impressive build and experiment. David Kronstein the creator of the Chronos has attached a camera to a specially modified mower and blade assembly to shoot what a lawnmower does directly on the blade’s edge.  The mower was only run at 1/2 speed, to avoid a camera failure, resulted in about 180 G-forces at the edge of the camera.

Needless to say, it really shows how good the camera is at withstanding abuse.  While we do not condone you do this with any camera it is cool to know it can be done and still have beautiful high speed imagery to go with it. Congrats to David for the successful build!   The G-forces involved would kill any living thing with a brain in seconds hence why a camera is a good subject, Please don’t try this at home! DJI OSMO Pocket Slow Motion will have 120fps!

Early on in the beta testing of the device, the OSMO Pocket by DJI released this week had gimbal stabilized 1080p 120fps included in the specs. However, by launch, the slow motion frame rate disappeared. There were anecdotal discussions that the device overheated in the mode and that is why it was pulled out of the product launch. However, there are no official statements to back this up.

DJI Should release the new firmware update for the OSMO Pocket by December 15th just in time for Christmas delivery of the product. At Just $349 USD, it will probably be a GoPro killer as a stocking stuffer during the holiday season.  Initial samples show the low light video quality besting the GoPro but the slow-motion mode is still less detailed than the Action Camera.  The stabilization is incredible and beats everything in its price range including the Hero 7 Black. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
