The newly released Canon G7 X III and G5 X II Powershot cameras are finally upping the stagnant slow motion features of these lines to a very 2014 spec of 120fps Full HD. Up to now Canon had capped the Full HD Performance at 60fps 1080p and a maximum of 120fps at 720p with a severe crop. There is no mention of a 240fps 720p spec which makes us believe that there is no 720p video option besides maybe a 30p mode.
Both cameras sport a 20.1MP 1″ inch Stacked CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor reminiscent of the Sony RX series. We estimate this might be the same Sony sensor employed but without the super slow motion capabilities of 480/500fps and 960/1000fps modes that have made that line of cameras a cut apart.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
The OPPO Reno 10x is getting a lot of attention due to the inclusion of a supposed 10x optical telescoping lens which uses a prism and a series of stabilized lens elements to create the first built in telephoto option on a camera phone. In testing, this turns out to be about a real 5x optical lens with very clever processing to generate even higher software magnification. However, you will be sad to know that the 10X version of the phone does not shoot Super Slow Motion.
The Regular OPPO Reno which is cheaper and lacks the 10X camera does shoot up to 1080p 240fps which is not class leading and there are as of this time no samples to speak of. We believe this phone uses slow motion as an after-thought spec and focuses more on the stills and 4k 60p video mode only on the 10x version which are a higher selling point. We still believe the OPPO Reno is a worthy phone for anyone wanting cutting edge optics on a phone but not as a slow motion contender.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
The Kinefinity Terra 4k camera which starts at $3,999 body only and a ready to shoot package at $5,499 has now released information of a new firmware upgrade that will be released in May of this year which increases the slow-motion capabilities of the camera markedly. The camera was no slouch before when it came to frame rates which had 240fps at 2k and 100fps at 4k. It actually records in RAW and has excellent quality with no moire and aliasing since it is effectively cropping the sensor area to get a 1:1 pixel read-out for the slow mo.
For this low a price you really have no viable options that shoot these frame rates in excellent quality except for the recently announced Chronos 2.1 HD which does 1000fps at 1080p in DNG RAW. The Kinefinity line of cameras has started to become a go-to place for cinema quality at reasonable prices. Many Video Pros are actually becoming owners of the camera and praise the rock-solid quality of the build, operation and beautiful image quality with ample dynamic range. The Chinese have really built the Cinema camera for the common man.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the “Chronos 68″ made of 48 Chronos 1.4 cameras thus able to process 68 Gpx/s. Is anyone in to buy?” Krontech.ca
Being this April 1st which could make it an April Fools prank we are cautious about calling this a real rig, or product, but it sure looks pretty capable as a way to capture a 360-degree view of something. Whatever the case, this is probably not going to be cheap but geared to professional movie making or very hardcore labs. Krontech.ca website here! What do you think?-HSC
The Tesla500 Youtube Channel is at it again with an impressive build and experiment. David Kronstein the creator of the Chronos has attached a camera to a specially modified mower and blade assembly to shoot what a lawnmower does directly on the blade’s edge. The mower was only run at 1/2 speed, to avoid a camera failure, resulted in about 180 G-forces at the edge of the camera.
Needless to say, it really shows how good the camera is at withstanding abuse. While we do not condone you do this with any camera it is cool to know it can be done and still have beautiful high speed imagery to go with it. Congrats to David for the successful build! The G-forces involved would kill any living thing with a brain in seconds hence why a camera is a good subject, Please don’t try this at home! Watch the video below:→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
