Panasonic GH5 vs Red Epic Slow Motion

The Youtube channel CRFTSHO has created a guessing video game that pits the Panasonic GH5 vs the RED EPIC Camera in a slow motion 1080p match.  The fun is that even for the trained eye there is no easy way to tell which camera is actually on screen playing until you get the revelation footage which is the 2nd part of the game.

What is interesting about the results is that the RED Epic a camera worth over 10 times more than the Panasonic Lumix GH5 is almost indistinguishable and in some shots the cheaper camera is preferable in sharpness and detail.  It probably has to do with the GH5 doing full sensor downsampling up to 120fps at 1080p vs the RED doing sensor windowed mode. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

After the few camera announcements at CES that have a slow motion component there is little on the hardware side until CP+ Expo in Japan on Thursday, February 23 to Sunday, February 26, 2017.   Fuji Just announced a few cameras but the maximum frame rate on those is 60fps 1080p so we really have no interest in covering them at HSC. Our coverage starts at 720p 120fps and up.

However there is a lot of new slow motion footage on the web lately and we really have to marvel at the ingenuity, skill and risk taking to get it done.  We have a few footage samples from this week that we believe you should check out. There is a plethora of new slow motion videos being produced each day and hundreds of thousands a year to maybe millions. However there is a clear distinction between the good the bad and the middle of the road efforts to capture content. There is also a clear trend to monetize slow motion on Youtube and Facebook and that makes it easy to find video trends of sports tricks, nature themes and people shooting others doing pranks or sexy poses that will allow for millions of views.
