The Spanish Association of Broadcast, Cinema and TV Producers or PNBE for short, is sharing some information about a camera they are custom building for the purpose of shooting a new series for Spanish Television that explores Nature and Astrology “Or maybe Astronomy” which could be a translation error. The new camera will be able to shoot at pretty remarkable specs like 10k and 8k video including higher frame rates at many resolutions that surpass anything in its class.
The camera needs to have extreme detail and low light performance with RAW capabilities. Only a dozen will be built for the TV program but we assume they share the information in order to see if there is interest in the market for DPs and other professionals to own such a camera. It seems Fox Sports have gone all out this year to capture the World Series of Baseball in all it’s glory using a variety of cameras including 8 super slow motion dedicated devices. While the majority of the 41 cameras they will use will be 30 HD game cameras i.e. 1080p for live play, the rest is a mixture of diverse high frame rate options for replay and call analysis as are flying wire cameras.
It is unclear which models of camera they will be using but Phantoms by vision research are mentioned which are among the most used for their ability to review a shot immediately without encoding the data and the ability to save to hyper-fast flash media, along with 360fps and 960fps options which are probably from other manufacturers. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
The Rio Olympics has been called many things so far but if you have been watching it closely it is probably the world event with the most slow motion cameras ever used. By some estimates there are about 1500 high frame rate capable cameras at the games anywhere from 120fps to 2,500fps. Sony has rocked the slow motion 4k world today with the Sony HDC-4800 Professional Live Event and Sports shooting camera released today at NAB 2016 in Las Vegas. It has a very impressive spec sheet for slow motion enthusiasts. And it is the first true super slow motion camera from sony that shoots above 250fps in 4k resolution. Quite a beast!
