Panasonic GH4 Post Focus FW & GH5 Rumors!

The Panasonic GH4 has been an incredible camera since it’s release. It has produced endless content for TV, the web and even some films. While slow motion tops at 96fps in this camera with limited resolution, it has a pretty strong 4k mode that has virtually no aliasing or moire artifacts.

The camera has not been left in the cold by Panasonic as firmware updates have been released with fair regularity including the V-Log update for extended dynamic range. JVC GY-LS300 Offers Rebate and 120fps Upgrade!

What came as sort of a surprise and some mitigated anger to current  recent owners of the camera, JVC announced that the JVC GY-LS300 4k, HD and SD capable camcorder will now be offered at $1,000 USD cheaper from a MSRP of $3,995 to $2,995. Furthermore it has a few new features added in a free firmware upgrade to current and new owners of the camera in April.

The update brings full HD 120fps capability to an already robust camera along with “JVC Log Gamma” recording mode.  The camera offers a Micro 4/3 mount for easy use of different lens mounts including Canon and Nikkor lenses which is a big strength of this setup.  Hundreds of adapted lenses can be used from almost any manufacturer.  The JVC Log mode is supposed to increase dynamic range by 800%. We find that claim a  little on the superlative side and probably will bring 2-3 real stops improvement in DR. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Video ramping is not new, it is actually been here for quite a few years in cameras and widely accessible in modern video editors. The problem is that it is still a hard thing to do properly.  You either get choppy results, artifacts or pretty amazing ones by chance or by sheer trial and error and are not easily repeatable. fps1000 Ships First Cameras Continues Fixes!

A milestone in the fps1000 project has been reached as now a small batch of cameras have been shipped to some of the backers that were content with the full metal casing design.  The camera ran into some hurdles on EMC testing with the latest case design “some pesky leaks” which have been corrected and are awaiting a re-test.   Cameras are running a stable and usable software already letting the cameras record and do capture as intended.   The early adopters will serve as beta testers and will help Graham Rowan the creator of the fps1000 iron out software bugs if they appear before a wider release. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
