Fox Sports World Series Broadcast Will Use 8 SlowMo Cameras!

Fox Sports World Series Broadcast Slow Motion

It seems Fox Sports have gone all out this year to capture the World Series of Baseball in all it’s glory using a variety of cameras including 8 super slow motion dedicated devices.  While the majority of the 41 cameras they will use will be 30 HD game cameras i.e. 1080p for live play, the rest is a mixture of diverse high frame rate options for replay and call analysis as are flying wire cameras.

It is unclear which models of camera they will be using but Phantoms by vision research are mentioned which are among the most used for their ability to review a shot immediately without encoding the data and the ability to save to hyper-fast flash media, along with 360fps and 960fps options which are probably from other manufacturers. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

EDGERTRONIC SC2X REVIEW – PART 2

In Part 1 of this review, we looked at the body and design of the edgertronic SC2X camera. Touched on the mount and available frame rates including a few new changes and some video samples. Part two is all about using and understanding the abilities and limitations of the camera as a high-speed tool for Film, TV, Science, Sports, Medicine and other industries.

The edgertronic SC2X is the culmination of a lot of engineering prowess and expectations for a full HD 1080p capable high-speed camera that is both capable and usable for the most demanding image quality trials. The 1,910fps speed is ideal for capturing a plethora of human and physical events that do not happen in the blink of an eye but over a few seconds. Sports videographers and Nature shooters will feel right at home with the resolution finally being big enough for the minimum submission guidelines of TV production and Film post. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

EDGERTRONIC SC2X REVIEW – PART 1

edgertronic SC2X Review Part 1

Last year we reviewed the edgertronic SC2+ affordable professional high-speed camera with a near 5000fps 720p performance and it offered the best price/performance yield in the high-speed camera world. The first edgertronic was revolutionary in price and features and was a big disruptor in the slow-motion camera space as many competitors that offered essentially the same performance, were left with price tags several orders of magnitude higher which limited their adoption to only a handful of users in some cases.

This year Sanstreak the company founded by Mike Matter the mind behind the edgertronic SC1 and SC2+ is now launching the edgertronic SC2X 1080p Full HD slow-motion camera, which offers performance that rivals the most demanding competitor products in the space of professional high frame rate capture.  Software wise it shares an evolving code base with other edgertronic cameras that continually improve features, stability and user interface. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Edgertronic SC2X Hands On Preview!

Edgertronic SC2X Hands On Preview

Just a few weeks ago we were surprised by a camera release that not only met the demanding 1080p 1000fps spec but actually nearly doubled it at 1910fps. The edgertronic SC2X is the result of the continued evolution of the popular camera line that aims to bridge the gap without compromising features, dependability or image quality.

The edgertronic SC1 and SC2, SC2+ have already proven themselves to be rock solid cameras in the fields of industrial production line monitoring, scientific labs in physics, biology and material testing. The cameras have also been used in broadcast TV, internet delivery and sporting events with amazing results. Naturally, we are expecting a lot from the SC2X and the 1080p resolution. This preview aims to answer a lot of questions and see if it’s a worthy addition to the edgertronic line. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

edgertronic SC2X Unveiled 1910fps at 1080p!

edgertronic SC2X

edgertronic has unleashed what could be the most important affordable slow motion camera release this decade.  The new SC2X aims to finally jump the 1080p barrier of over 1000fps that has been the wall of performance for cameras under $50k USD.  The camera goes overboard with 1910fps at 1920*1088 pixels which offers TV, film, and web video production a new realm of possibilities with native resolution frame rates.

The camera looks and works exactly the same as the previous SC2+ release but with a flange ring in yellow golden color. The camera will work with all existing edgertronic cases, accessories and support systems as it is a direct upgrade for the line and maintains dimensions. The camera continues the use of the Nikon F mount which allows for manual aperture and focus on the supported lenses which are plentiful. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony FS5 Firmware 4.0 Unlocks 120fps FHD!

Sony FS5 Firmware 4.0

As it was announced back in early April 2017 the Sony FS5 firmware 4 was just released for the camera. It is of note because it unlocks the ability on the camera to shoot 120fps at full HD 1080p continuously without time limit.  Of course, you will have to pay the extra $500 USD for the right to do so by unlocking a license code.

The firmware itself which is free for camera owners does give you some really good free goodies like HDR video shooting in Hybrid-Log gamma which should make highlight and shadow retention much better in this new profile.  As an extra as well you will now be able to use ISO 3200 for S-Log2 and S-Log 3 recording up from ISO 2000. Making it more capable in low light. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
