OnePlus the Chinese Startup Smartphone company has today unveiled the 3rd incarnation of their very popular OnePlus Phone in the OnePlus 3.  Specs bring it in line with the competition for the most part with the Snapdragon 820 Chip, an astounding 6GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage and Dash Charge which is their version of rapid charging technology.

Galaxy S7 Active Offers Rugged 720p 240fps!

Samsung as it is customary has released the rugged version of their flagship Galaxy phone in this case the Galaxy S7 Active.  The Phone is IP68 water resistant which is not for scuba or snorkeling but will allow for it to be used in heavy rain, wash it and or for that accidental drop into the sink or puddle.

The Phone did not improve the video specs on the fabulous Galaxy S7 camera but has directly translated the performance; furthermore is might be the first Active phone that may be usable without a protective case of any kind do to it’s new Poly carbonate screen layer which makes it shatter resistance above and beyond what common Gorilla glass can withstand. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Zuk Z2 960fps video resolution decoded!

The Zuk Z2 has been released and as it’s customary from many manufacturers they omit the slow motion or just mention it as an afterthought.  According to the press release it does support 960fps video recording but nothing else is mentioned.   There is a mention of the feature still not active in the pre release phone due to software lag which will be released at a later date.

That however has not deterred us from crunching some numbers and getting a good estimate from the Samsung 13MP ISOCELL sensor used  which gives us clues as to what to expect in terms of higher frame rate support.  lets dig in! → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Moto G4 Plus Has Low Res Slow Motion!

These seems to be a large quantity of phones coming out every week and it is hard to keep track of them. The new Motorola Moto G4 Plus which is the flagship of the new Moto G affordable line which is the first phone release for Chinese based Lenovo the new owner of Motorola mobility; was to be a big introduction.

Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro will have 960fps Video Confirmed!

This week’s announcement of the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro smartphone has been plagued with misinformation and spec sheets that were not complete.  We have received a full spec sheet for the phone now translated from Chinese that confirms the existence of 960fps video.

Resolution is one of the most important aspects of any camera image. In slow motion it could be the difference in showing important details or just obscure an event all-together.   In machinery failures during manufacturing; low resolution and high resolution can mean the difference in spotting a crack or bend in the process and that is hugely important.

For film makers and videographers resolution weights a lot when deciding upon a slow motion camera solution.  Not to long ago slow motion cameras at or under 1 megapixel 1024*1024 for example was a novelty and a luxury.  Nowadays 1280*720px or the lower end of HD resolution is easy to find and widely used.
