In what could be summed up as a big milestone day in affordable slow motion, Krontech.ca the company behind the excellent 720p 1500fps Chronos 1.4c slow motion camera has now announced ready for pre-order a new 1080p Full HD 1000fps slow motion camera that starts at a bargain basement price of $5,000 US Dollars. Considering just a few years ago this performance in the Phantom camera space was a six-figure proposition, this is major progress towards a camera that we have been waiting for a long time.
Sony has released the RX0 Mark II which now includes the ability to record 4k internally as opposed to using an external recorder. Other goodies include a new flippy screen which while tiny, it allows for easy framing and selfie vlogger styles. A new stabilizer is included for reducing shake and it is a definite improvement even when the rolling shutter is a real problem.
Most of the camera is the same as before when it comes to body shape and usability, the higher frame rates are identical as the 2017 RX0 Mark I with essentially the same resolution and time recording. The big improvement comes in the screen and internal 4k recording with stabilization which seems to be directly aimed at vloggers. The sensor is, however, a tad less crowded by pixels at 15.3MP on the Mark II vs 21MP on the Mark 1. That should help in the low light department.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
It looks like DJI has not set in stone the frame rate spec of the recently released OSMO Pocket which we found to be excellent in handling and gives a beautiful low light stabilized image considering the small sensor size and price. It even beat out the GoPro Hero 7 in dynamic range and noise control but fell short of frame rates being on our good side. Thanks to our reader Frank for the tip!
In a new video by Drone NewsGuy from Youtube, the pro app and latest beta firmware for the OSMO Pocket are tested and you can enable a somewhat hidden setting to get 200fps in real terms out of the small device. The catch is that the setting requires the phone app to be activated every time you want to use it and will remain there until you change settings to something else. We would love for DJI to allow the 200fps setting right out of the box on the interface and not only that, allow for even greater fps in 720p mode and even a small VGA mode for users needing that extra frame rate.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
Early on in the beta testing of the device, the OSMO Pocket by DJI released this week had gimbal stabilized 1080p 120fps included in the specs. However, by launch, the slow motion frame rate disappeared. There were anecdotal discussions that the device overheated in the mode and that is why it was pulled out of the product launch. However, there are no official statements to back this up.
DJI Should release the new firmware update for the OSMO Pocket by December 15th just in time for Christmas delivery of the product. At Just $349 USD, it will probably be a GoPro killer as a stocking stuffer during the holiday season. Initial samples show the low light video quality besting the GoPro but the slow-motion mode is still less detailed than the Action Camera. OnePlus has released the official OnePlus 6T slow motion 480fps promotional video with high production values. It is all shot with the phone and while you can see the jaggies and edge artifacts from resolution loss, it offers pretty compelling color and dynamic range for a phone. The 3.75 second rec time at 480fps turns out 1800frames or 30-sec playback at 30fps.
The OnePlus6 & 6T which offer essentially the same camera and high fps component are in the running for our slow-motion phone of the year along with the close competition from the Samsung Note 9 and Galaxy S9. However, the usefulness of the OnePlus 6 devices with much more recording allowance is a very big differentiator that in reality should impact your purchase decision much more than 960fps.→ Continue Reading Full Post ←
The Spanish company Cinemartin known for their camera monitors is now officially launching the Fran 8k line of cameras in three flavors. The Fran 8k LT at an introductory price of €7,920 Euros or $9,000 USD which shoots 8k at 24p and up to 96fps in 2k resolution in either DNG RAW, PNG or ProRes while sporting a 37 mm x 27 mm (Diagonal 46.2 mm) sensor size slightly larger than a Full Frame 35mm. The LT version will not sport features like Programmability and image stabilization which the other higher cost models will support.
The cameras are built to order and require a 10% deposit when reserved. They are geared at the commercial and cinema markets which require the utmost image quality and 8k resolution on a very large sensor. The frame rates at 4k max out at 60p and at 2k max out at 120fps on the two higher-end models. The introductory prices will only be available until 31st of December 2018. looking at the video samples released it is clear the quality of the image will be cinematic and contain extreme detail.
