The GoPro Hero 6 Black was announced yesterday and is identical to the leaks that appeared last week from packaging. This is a good thing but we were expecting the 720p mode to allow for 480fps and VGA to allow 960fps as it is customary for GoPro to include higher frame rates the lower the resolution windowed on the sensor drops.

The camera however now takes the crown once again for performance in higher frame rates and includes the 4k 60fps spec which we saw debut earlier on the Yi 4k+ action camera. Also, it brings in an unexpected 2.7k 120fps spec that takes it one notch higher than any other portable cam out there.  1080p 240fps was expected and brings it in line with Phones like the iPhone 8 and X. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony Palm 4k Camcorders Have 960fps!

Sony has released three new Palm Sized 4k camcorders on the wake left by the RX10 IV all in one  1″ Sensor camera, these new cameras aim to produce professional results in 4k and with the use of broadcast features like 3G-SDI in the case of the Z90V allow for real time ENG and EFP production.

These cameras have the same  sensor and buffer mode as the RX10 IV camera but in a more traditional non SLR like form factor. The FDR-AX700 at the lower end of the range lacks a Proper microphone mount and XLR inputs with volume controls but they all share the same specs in lens 12x – and internal codecs aside from broadcast features.  This includes the HFR mode which seems to be identical to the RX10 IV offering 120fps continuous and up to 7 seconds of 240fps near full HD and reduced resolution 480fps and 960fps. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

iPhone X & 8 Have 240fps Full HD!

From earlier rumors, we were already privy to the information on the 240fps full HD from a code leak that showed it as an option on the new iOS beta.  There was also a secondary rumor that stated 480fps on HD 720p as a code snippet.  On the final phones, there seems to be no mention of this extra frame rate which possibly is being saved for a future mobile product by Apple.

The new Phones X (for ten) and 8 with the 8 Plus both have the same improved camera modules with the new A11 Bionic chip which brings new levels of performance to smartphones which also permits the processing of a larger frame buffer for full HD 1080p at 240fps and as an extra bonus for the first time in a Phone, 4k 60fps recording. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Sony RX10 IV Improves HFR Resolution!

As expected Sony has released the RX10 IV super zoom camera.  It is a good update to last year’s RX10 III which had a maximum HFR recording rate in quality priority of 2 seconds. This new model is, in essence, the exact same Sensor and HFR spec combination as the excellent Sony RX100 V which was our camera pick for 2016 when it came to price/performance for high-speed recording.

The RX10 IV has, however, a brand new AF system with 315 AF phase points in total with also 25 region contrast AF areas for extra accuracy.   The camera is mostly identical to its predecessor in appearance with improvements and refinements like a better screen and improved weather sealing. The new Olympus OM-D E-M10 III release has for the first time introduced for the line some sort of slow motion feature. While not much it should be noted that Olympus has the best 5 axis image stabilization in-body system when it comes to jitter reduction and overall look.  Even while running or walking the camera does an admirable job.

The Panasonic GH5 has a similar system but Olympus still has the edge in performance by having much less shake with their patented solution. This is great for shooting video and this camera with 4k recording is probably one of the most stable handheld solutions for shooting UHD. edgertronic has unleashed what could be the most important affordable slow motion camera release this decade.  The new SC2X aims to finally jump the 1080p barrier of over 1000fps that has been the wall of performance for cameras under $50k USD.  The camera goes overboard with 1910fps at 1920*1088 pixels which offers TV, film, and web video production a new realm of possibilities with native resolution frame rates.

The camera looks and works exactly the same as the previous SC2+ release but with a flange ring in yellow golden color. The camera will work with all existing edgertronic cases, accessories and support systems as it is a direct upgrade for the line and maintains dimensions.
