The end of 2017 is upon and its time to look back through the year’s camera releases and see which delivered quality at an affordable price in slow motion.  HD quality slow motion options took a big leap this year in the phone space and on new entrants in the semi-professional camera fields. It was quite a year in many respects!

Many promised cameras still have not seen the light of day which means they will not be counted in the running. Only cameras that are shipping in quantity with a reasonable wait time and available now are being considered for this post. Chronos Kickstarter Camera One Year Later!

David Kronstein has published a walkthrough video of the Krontech warehouse, assembly installations, and offices located near Vancouver Canada, in what could be described as a rapid expansion of a startup that just a year ago was just coalescing.  With now 337 Chronos 1.4c cameras shipped to Kickstarter backers and also direct purchase buyers; this is a significant number of units for any high-speed camera and we can probably expect that number to increase!

David also goes shares his thanks to the people who helped make the camera project possible and where the company can grow from here. We expect great things from Krontech not that they have shown the ability to mass produce gear that works and as it continues to improve with software releases. It is that time of the year again when you get to use your savings to get that piece of gear you have been eyeing for a while. Discounted cameras and lenses start to inundate the web to make way for new upcoming releases next year.  We have distilled the slow motion capable gear that has a discount and listed it for easy access.

Warning: The parent company of FPS cameras “The Slow Motion Camera Company Ltd.” went out of business and entered liquidation proceedings. No further development of cameras is expected. More information here on Google Search! 

After a long hiatus since the fps1000 project was founded, Graham Rowan the creator of both that Kickstarter project and the fps1000HD which has shipped to backers; is now announcing two new camera specs aimed at satisfying the original Kickstarter project backers who did not receive their camera.  The new models replace the fps1000 original, Hex and 4k models in a six camera matrix that is divided into two main lines. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

edgertronic SC2X Unveiled 1910fps at 1080p!

edgertronic has unleashed what could be the most important affordable slow motion camera release this decade.  The new SC2X aims to finally jump the 1080p barrier of over 1000fps that has been the wall of performance for cameras under $50k USD.  The camera goes overboard with 1910fps at 1920*1088 pixels which offers TV, film, and web video production a new realm of possibilities with native resolution frame rates.

The camera looks and works exactly the same as the previous SC2+ release but with a flange ring in yellow golden color. The camera will work with all existing edgertronic cases, accessories and support systems as it is a direct upgrade for the line and maintains dimensions. This week has brought a flurry of new rumors when it comes to smartphones that do slow motion. Now is the turn for Apple and the rumored iPhone 8 that will now according to a supposed software leak will be able to shoot 4k at 60fps on both the front and back cameras in order to allow for new features that need more resolution and frame rates in order to function as intended.

There is also a slight delay on the Chronos camera production second round due to PCBs being bumped at the factory for a different order. This should push the delivery to end of August but not much more as the camera is not only proven but with all of round 1 out there in client’s hands it is a near certainty that the camera is not only on solid footing but will be a contender for camera of the year at HSC! → Continue Reading Full Post ←
