July is typically a slow month for hardware news but there are still several things happening on the slow motion front that deserves your attention. We have gathered a series of information and footage that is becoming viral with the help of slow motion imaging.

A fairly new Youtube Channel “9 Months old” is gaining momentum by filming a 60,000PSI water jet cutter slicing through all sorts of objects. We are very impressed with the results of the Waterjet Channel and what they have been able to film in such a short time. They just broke 300k subscribers which is no easy feat. Chronos 1.4 Mods Make Improvements!

We would like to share a few modifications users of the Chronos 1.4 have made to the camera in the few short weeks they have had to put it through its paces. In our case, we got the Pro AM 5″ Sunshade for LCD screens and had great success curing what could have been a big nuisance for the camera. In bright daylight, the Chronos screen completely washes out like most phones out there and makes it impossible to judge focus, controls and reviewing clips.

There are also case mods and more strap accessories that have made the camera better. While the software is still in the early stages, the camera is fully functional and has been able to deliver outstanding image quality. There are a few image artifacts that firmware will address in the future, that are pushing back our full review of the camera. Sony a9 Slow Motion Samples!

Now that the Sony a9 has been shipping for a few weeks it is time to re-visit and look at the slow motion 1080p quality that the camera touted at release. It is clear that the camera is intended for the midrange crowd with it’s hard to swallow price tag but that does not mean you can’t think of it as a good video camera alternative.

It is also now more inclined to be used by video professionals because Sony has stated the a9 will have an S-Log update in the near future that will allow it to shoot on a flat video profile for LUT grading. One Plus 5 Debuts With Only 720p 120fps!

There were a lot of expectations for the phone that would replace the One Plus 3T which was a mighty seller for the performance hungry crowd without the high price tag that typically goes along with the best phones. The new One Plus 5 is a good upgrade from the One Plus 3 and 3T in that the performance goes neck and neck with the best of the best out there and tied with the Samsung Galaxy S8 in benchmarks.

The tale, however, is not completely rosy as the camera module taking a page from the iPhone 7 Plus includes two camera sensor modules, one for wide-angle at 16MP and the other for telephoto with 20MP resolution. We say it falls short because the slow motion frame rates are pegged to a 720p resolution and only at 120fps. AXIOM Beta Camera Kit in Production!

The Axiom Apertus camera project is progressing forward with the completion of 25 developer Beta kits to backers of the camera. It is a working model without a final case and with ongoing software development. The camera is functional and has a Sony E-Mount at the moment but with the ability to change the mount if needed. The camera color science is being coded by A1ex of magic lantern fame. It will be a possibility to use digital “Film Stocks” at the push of a button to be able to match certain looks.

The footage from the beta camera is quite good with excellent film like characteristics in a 10-13 stop range. There is a cinema camera feel that is absent from other cheaper camera options in the ILC and DSLR Camps. The closest look is that from Blackmagic Design’s Cinema camera options. Chronos Camera Must Have Accessories!

So now that many Kickstarter backers have received the Chronos 1.4 including HSC, we have had a few days to test it out and see what kind of accessories the camera needs to be customized for full usability. There are quite a few hardware cages that may fit it but we rather use the camera as is with some clever low-cost fixes.

The camera is performing well with operation being solid for the 4 days we have taken it through its paces. Some things do scream out as essentials in order for the camera to be safe from drops and shield it from the sun in order to see the LCD screen properly which is not particularly good in direct sunlight as most LCDs suffer from this. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
