OnePlus 3T Slow Motion

The OnePlus 3T is a phone that is really a near clone of the OnePlus 3 but with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 / Quad-core Kyro CPU vs the Snapdragon 820 on the previous one. The main improvement is that the 821 chip is able to run at full speed without overheating the phone and force a throttle down.   Another improvement is a 3400mAh battery instead of 3000mAh on its older brother.

For slow motion however the camera should be the near the performance as camera improvements are “Intelligent Pixel Technology” which reduces noise in low light, New Saphire coated lens with slightly enhanced electronic image stabilization. The front selfie camera however offers 16MP on the 3T vs the 8MP of the  OnePlus 3 which should yield much more detail for these types of captures. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Their 35k USD goal was broken easily and now nearing $360k USD it seems they will have no trouble selling these lights like hotcakes.  However you can still get one of these lights which is ideal for slow motion recording because of their flicker free nature. We have now a fairly good amount of slow motion samples for the Sony a6500 compact APS-C Camera to share with you.  It is clear that the quality this camera can provide is above the norm but we still do see some aliasing in diagonal fine lines which is to be expected by a sensor that is skipping some of the lines to achieve 1080p 120fps.

While the 4k UHD in this camera is derived from an oversampling of 6k; the 1080p 120fps is being extracted from a 24.2MP sensor using a 13MP effective crop factor 1.9x;  is throwing away some line information to get there. Also the camera caps frame rate output over HDMI at 60fps so there is no way to record super slow motion to an external recorder at 120fps. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

The Barnacle Action Camera 2.0 is a Kickstarter project from Canberra Australia, that aims to democratize good quality action cameras for every one.  They have just 14 days left in their funding goal with just under 1/3rd of the required pledge total.  This is an unconventional camera that aims to go toe to toe with the best action cameras out there.

The shape and tiny size is different with everything controlled from Apple or Android devices besides a basic power and record buttons on the top of the camera.  It however aims at the professional market with features that are usually twice the cost on other brands. The latest update from the fps1000 camera front shows the production line of sensor boards with memory and other parts. Production is ongoing and cameras are on schedule to start shipping to Kickstarter Backers next week or Dec 12-18+.  This is on schedule as planned and after testing and quality control they should start reaching buyers by the end of the month which is a welcome development. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
