Sony Xperia XZ1 Rumors Say 960fps Feature!

Sony Xperia XZ1

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Rumors about a 5.2″ HDR screen phone in the XZ line include the Motion Eye feature of 960fps video capture.  The Xperia XZs and XZ Premium earlier this year showed off Sony’s new slow motion capabilities when it comes to mobile sensor packages. The quality on those phones aims for 720p at 960fps and while it has some artifacts it is still usable.

We expect the Motion Eye Feature of the XZ1 to be the same as in other XZ phones which lasts under one second of recording at 720p 960fps. The Phone leaks also suggests the same sensor block which at 19MP is identical to previous XZ releases with Motion Eye.  The Phone will also have 4k 30p and 60fps 1080p recording.   → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Galaxy S8 Active and Note 8 Rumors!

Galaxy S8 Active Note 8 Rumors

Two new handsets from Samsung should be released pretty soon. One is the overly leaked Galaxy S8 Active which will be an AT&T exclusive in the USA and the other is the long awaited Galaxy Note 8 which should be a clean slate for the company after the battery fire debacle last year which had the Note 7 removed from production.

The Galaxy S8 was kind of a let down in slow-motion specs with just the 720p 240fps as the really important metric. Absent was the 120fps 1080p mode of other competitive phones which is now becoming a must have for the video format.  The Note phones have always pushed the specs forward in Samsung phones and we were waiting for the Note 8 to increase frame rate specs. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

Motorola Moto Z2 Force Edition Serious SlowMo!

Motorola Moto Z2 Force

Motorola Mobility now an arm of the Lenovo Corporation has just announced the Moto Z2 Force Edition which is the next iteration of their Z Force original from 2016 which was a Verizon only product. The phone while somewhat popular never really gained enough market share to become important in the high-end smartphone space. The Z2 Force retains the unbreakable screen design which uses a protective plastic top layer before the glass.

The Z2 Force retains the unbreakable screen design which uses a protective plastic top layer before the glass. However, that layer is not scratch proof.  The Phone also retains the Moto Mods capability like the Hasselblad Mod which transforms the phone into a real zoom compact camera. The good news is that this time the Slow Motion has been beefed up to compete with the iPhone and Google Pixel handsets. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

RED Hydrogen Phone for High Speed?

RED Hydrogen Phone

So we have gotten a lot of speculative emails regarding the RED Hydrogen phone teaser announcement.  There are no real specs listed, only pricing which for Aluminum  $1195 and Titanium $1595 USD is no bargain.  It will be an Android phone with a revolutionary Holographic display capable of doing 2D-3D and holographic multiview which will be a mixture of the two.

The phone will also be a possible monitoring device for RED camera owners which will be able to control the cameras from the device.  If you are a RED owner it makes sense to have this as your phone and we expect most RED camera owners to own the device or pre-order. After all the phone will be the same cost as a breakout module for the RED camera which costs up to 70k ready to shoot in the highest spec configurations. → Continue Reading Full Post ←

DJI Spark Mini Drone Lacks High Frame Rates!

DJI Spark

The newly announced DJI Spark Selfie Micro-drone is a thing of beauty when it comes to capability vs size.  At just $499 it is also half the price of a DJI Mavic Pro and while it lacks a 3 axis gimbal and extended flight time; this is geared to the people that want a no nonsense experience that is truly portable for their flight camera needs. It has a camera capable of 1080p video of pretty good quality at 30fps.

The downside is that it lacks 4k for one thing and any other frame rates besides 30fps full HD.  It does do  12MP still images with good dynamic range and color accuracy which could become the best use of the drone for markets such as real estate, surveying and aerial imaging that is ready at any moment without the bulk. → Continue Reading Full Post ←
